Impotence Statistics: Germany 2025

For Deutsch click here.
Approximately 25% of German men aged 45 are affected by impotence, with this number increasing with age. There are also many men who are younger who experience erectile dysfunction (ED) symptoms, highlighting the prevalence of this condition. Yet, although there have been major strides in treatment options and erectile dysfunction medications are now readily available, there are still barriers such as stigma, lack of awareness, and hesitation to seek professional help that prevent men from pursuing effective treatment.
To determine current opinions on these topics, we used AI-driven audience profiling to synthesise insights from online discussions over the 12 months up to 26 May 2025 to a high statistical confidence level. This allowed us to analyse the 34,379 views of German men experiencing impotence and provide insight into the knowledge, attitudes, and preferences regarding treatment options, support systems, and the challenges they face in managing the condition.

How Would You Rate Your Knowledge About Treatment Options?
36% of German men experiencing impotence are fairly well informed about medications
The level of knowledge of treatment options differs amongst men affected by ED:

Understanding what treatment options are available is an important step in addressing the issue, but our findings show that knowledge levels are extremely low among German men experiencing impotence. Only 2% say they are extremely knowledgeable about surgery, while 31% say they are fairly informed. 36% also said they were fairly informed about medications, and another 31% said the same about therapy.
A lack of in-depth knowledge about ED treatment options isn't endemic to Germany. A survey commissioned by the European Association of Urology (EAU) revealed that in Europe, one in four respondents had never heard of any of the treatments for ED, let alone had any in-depth knowledge of them. This reinforces just how much of a need there is for education on this condition and the available treatment options.
How Often Does This Condition Impact Your Confidence Or Self-Esteem?
Erectile dysfunction constantly affects 54% of German men’s confidence
Impotence has a major impact on men’s overall sense of worth:

Studies on the psychology of erectile dysfunction have proven just how much of an impact this condition can have on men’s self-esteem and confidence, and our audience agrees. For 54% of German men experiencing impotence, the condition constantly affects their self-image, while 6% feel it constantly affects their mental health. For the remaining 41%, 34% say it often impacts their self-image, while 7% say it often impacts their mental health.
What Would Encourage You To Take The First Step Toward Treatment?
Only 11% would be encouraged by a discussion with a partner to seek ED treatment
The incentive to seek treatment comes from various sources:

Taking the first step toward ED treatment is a big one, and for our audience, there were some clear trends regarding what would encourage or discourage them to do so. Only 11% of the audience said that they were absolutely encouraged to seek treatment due to discussions with partners. Online forums also played a significant role in encouraging men to seek treatment, with 31% citing them as somewhat encouraging. In contrast, just 1% said these forums were not very encouraging, and 44% said they did not encourage them at all. 13% also said that support groups did not encourage them at all.
These statistics align with Healthline’s Survey on Men’s Health, which showed just how few men are comfortable talking about their condition, with only 25% saying they were somewhat or very comfortable talking about their symptoms. With so few willing to discuss their issues, it’s understandable that traditional support systems like conversations with partners or support groups often fall short in motivating men to seek treatment.
What Format Of Support Would You Prefer?
70% of German men suffering from impotence would prefer support from an online forum
A degree of anonymity is preferred by those looking for ED support:

Face-to-face support is evidently not the format of choice for German men seeking impotence support. So much so that 14% were adamant that they were not interested in therapy groups. In contrast, 70% said they preferred online forums, which is unsurprising when you consider that the findings showed that these forums played a major role in encouraging nearly a quarter of our audience to seek treatment. Just 2% said these forums were not their first choice.
Support hotlines were also a preferred format of support, with 14% saying they were absolutely essential. Fortunately, there are numerous men's health hotlines available in Germany, providing a vital lifeline for those seeking help in a private and accessible way.
Which Of The Following Sources Do You Trust Most For Advice Or Treatment Info?
21% of impotent German men completely trust medical websites as much as those who trust health professionals
Trusted sources for advice vary amongst those experienced ED:

Once again, online forums feature heavily in discussions, with 17% saying they completely trust them for advice or treatment information and 14% somewhat trusting them. Health websites also have a high trust index, with 21% completely trusting them. But 9% don’t trust them at all.
This 9% is also reflected in those who do not trust medical professionals, versus the 21% who do. 9% also completely trust support groups, suggesting again that men have more faith in those who have shared experiences than those who are perceived as clinical or detached. This lack of faith is reflected in the 2025 Edelman Trust Barometer Special Report: Trust and Health, which revealed that there’s a rising fear around the politicisation of medical science, which has jumped 7 points globally since 2022, and is the highest in Germany (+13 points in three years).
How Do You Feel About Prescription Medications As A Solution?
64% don't consider Viagra an option for impotence treatment
Sentiments about prescription medications offering a solution for ED vary:

While the global Viagra market may have made €1,470.8 million in 2024 and is expected to reach €2425.8 million by 2030, our audience doesn’t see this medication as much of a solution. A whopping 64% of German men said they don't consider Viagra an option for impotence, while 13% said they have some reservations about it.
Testosterone therapy, which is becoming more popular with those who associate sexual performance issues with hormonal imbalance, is also not seen as a hugely viable solution, with 11% saying they have some reservations about it and another 11% saying they don't even consider it an option for impotence treatment.
These statistics suggest a clear disconnect between the global popularity of pharmaceutical treatments and the views of German men experiencing impotence. Despite the market growth, many remain sceptical of options like Viagra and testosterone therapy, regardless of how readily available they are and how regularly they’re used.
What Type Of Doctor Or Specialist Have You Consulted, If Any?
82% of German men suffering from ED have never consulted a sex therapist
Consulting any type of doctor or specialist is not common for those experiencing impotence:

For our audience, consulting a specific doctor or specialist is evidently not a priority. The majority (82%) said that they have never consulted a sex therapist, while just 3% said they were hesitant to do so, and 11% said they were considering it. 4% also said they had never consulted an andrologist (the male equivalent of a gynaecologist).
This reluctance to seek specialist help mirrors findings from the Sexual Health of Men in Germany report, which revealed that many men avoid medical consultation for erectile dysfunction due to feelings of shame.
How Open Are You About This Issue With Your Partner?
Cultural attitudes cause 29% of impotent men to be hesitant about being open with their partner
Discussing impotence with partners is hindered by specific factors:

Research shows that sexual dysfunction impairs general health and relationships with partners, making the ability to discuss the topic all-important. However, for our audience, there were specific factors that limited how open they were about their impotence with partners. 54% said cultural attitudes allowed them to be somewhat open, while 29% said this is what causes them to be hesitant about being open.
Concerningly, 18% said they were not open at all, as they felt their partner could not offer emotional support for the issue. This reinforces the importance of removing the stigma around ED, as support and communication in a relationship are essential.
How Important Is Discreet Delivery And Packaging To You?
For 77%, discreet delivery and packaging of ED medication is absolutely crucial
The packaging of impotence medication arrives in plays a crucial role in its use:

Societal stigma of conditions like impotence has created an environment where those who experience this issue are hesitant to seek professional care or want to keep their treatment private. It’s understandable then that for those purchasing impotence medication, discreet delivery and packing are essential, with 77% of our audience saying it is absolutely crucial. A further 23% say it is quite important, suggesting that while not critical, it is still a consideration.
Which Of These Would Make You Feel Most Supported During Treatment?
41% of German men experiencing impotence would feel extremely supported by therapy
During treatment, additional support is important, with preferences differing on what type of support is best:

A 2023 research paper shows that the German public's readiness to seek help from mental health professionals has increased dramatically in the last 30 years. This is reflected amongst our audience, with 41% of men experiencing impotence saying that therapy would make them feel most supported during ED treatment. Conversely, the same number (41%) said that medical advice would not make them feel very supported, while 18% said that support groups wouldn't make them feel supported at all.
This points to an interesting pattern: motivational and psychological support through therapy is increasingly valued over traditional medical or group-based support.
How Would You Prefer To Track Your Treatment Progress?
100% would prefer to track ED treatment progress in a symptom diary
Keeping track of symptoms is a priority for German men experiencing impotence:

All 34,379 of our audience agree they’d prefer to track their treatment progress in a symptom diary as they’d find it considerably useful to have a record they can refer to. Symptom diaries are useful, provide a sense of control and direct involvement in treatment, and are a therapeutic outlet, too. For men experiencing impotence, this is especially important, as it's evident that seeking support isn’t always easy.
Overall, these findings provide a clear picture of how German men are navigating the challenges of impotence in 2025. From limited trust in traditional medications to a growing reliance on online forums and therapy, the statistics reveal how cultural attitudes, privacy concerns, and support preferences are shaping men's experiences and the way they address this very common issue.
